2019 HR-V LX There are some slight differences between the Honda HR-V and Subaru Crosstrek when it comes to their respective engines. The HR-V includes a 1.8L 4-cylinder engine and the Crosstrek features a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine. The HR-V comes with a Continuously Variable Transmission while the Crosstrek includes a 6-speed manual transmission. The CVT is certainly an advantage because it gives the HR-V an EPA-estimated 28 city/34 highway MPG with the 2WD version of its LX, Sport, EX, and EX-L trims*. The Crosstrek trails behind with an EPA-estimated 27 city/33 highway MPG.

Crossover Cabin Space & Cargo Capacity

One of the major benefits to having a vehicle like the HR-V vs. Crosstrek is the spacious cabins. Each crossover offers plenty of space to their respective passengers, but the HR-V certainly accommodates 2nd-row riders a little better with 38.3 inches of headroom and 39.3 inches of legroom. The Crosstrek only features 38 inches of headroom and 36.5 inches of legroom in the rear.

2019 HR-V

Each vehicle offers plenty of room for cargo behind the seats. The HR-V includes 24.3 cubic feet and the Crosstrek features 20.8 cubic feet. However, folding down the rear seats will open the HR-V cargo area to 58.8 cubic feet while the Crosstrek offers only 55.3 cubic feet of total cargo space.

Entertainment Features & Technology

The Honda HR-V and the Subaru Crosstrek each include dashboard-mounted display screens that you can use to select your media options for the journey ahead. Both vehicles come equipped with respective AM/FM radios, USB and auxiliary inputs for external media players, and even Bluetooth® connectivity that allows for both hands-free phone calls as well as audio streaming from your preferred music services.

The Honda HR-V also includes Speed-Sensitive Volume Compensation, which will automatically adjust your audio levels when the engine performance is louder than normal. Unfortunately, the Crosstrek doesn’t offer this feature.
