Which Honda Civic Is Turbo?
The Honda Civic is a sporty model that allows Venice, Punta Gorda, and North Port, Florida, drivers to choose the level of exhilaration in their drives. This is thanks to the turbocharger equipped on many of the Civic models and trims.
If you want to get the most from your next Honda Civic, learn more about the turbocharger and which trims and models you can find it on. Read below and contact the Norm Reeves Honda Superstore Port Charlotte team with any questions that you may think of.
What Is Turbo?
Inside many of the Honda Civic models, you’ll find an engine with a turbocharger. This piece of equipment can enhance a vehicle’s power output without decreasing efficiency by forcing more air into engine cylinders to create more power.
In an engine, gasoline and pressurized air work together to create energy inside cylinders. On their own, engines are naturally aspirated. This means that they take in air either through a vacuum or negative pressure. However, a turbocharger forces more air into the cylinders resulting in greater combustion and energy production.
All in all, a turbocharger allows your car to do more with less.
Honda Civic Sedan
Inside the 2022 Honda Civic sedan, you’ll find two trims with a turbocharger and two trims without a turbocharger. Check out the specs below to see how much of a difference a turbocharger makes:

As you can see, the engine with the turbocharger is able to produce more power using less fuel. As a result, you get better performance and fuel efficiency.
Honda Civic Hatchback
Unlike the Honda Civic sedan, the 2021 hatchback model comes with a turbocharger on each of its trims. However, you’ll still find varying outputs of power thanks to the different transmission options. Take a look below:

Honda Civic Type R
The 2021 Honda Civic Type R offers the most power out of any of the other Honda Civic models with show-stopping 306 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. However, the engine itself isn’t too different from the sedan or hatchback options.
With the Type R, you’ll have a 2.0L in-line 4-cylinder with turbocharger. However, the turbocharger that’s equipped forces nearly twice as much pressure into the cylinders as the other two models.
The sedan and hatchback turbocharger forces in a pressure of 16.5 psi, but the Type R turbocharger forces in 23.2 psi of pressure into the cylinder.
