Each SUV offers an expansive cabin with three rows of seating. The Pilot offers more headroom with 40.1 inches in the front and 40.2 inches in the middle row. The Mazda CX-9 only offers its front row passengers 39.3 inches of headroom and 38.5 inches of legroom for passengers in the middle.

There’s a pretty significant difference in the amount of cargo space offered by these SUVs. The Mazda CX-9 only features 14.4 cubic feet of cargo space while the Pilot includes 16.5 cubic feet. When the third rows are folded flat, the Pilot cargo space expands to 46.8 cubic feet and the CX-9 broadens to just 38.2 cubic feet. When the last two rows are folded, the Pilot offers 83.9 cubic feet and the CX-9 offers just 71.2 cubic feet.

Driver-Assistance Technology

Honda Pilot Interior The Honda Pilot and Mazda CX-9 each include some driver-assisting technology systems that utilize exterior sensors to measure the speed and distance to not only provide you with a warning, but also to mitigate the collision by using slight brake pressure to reduce the severity of the collision or help you avoid it entirely. Each vehicle includes pre-collision systems, but the Pilot also adds Road Departure Mitigation System and Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow.
