2019 Honda Civic Sedan Powertrain Review
The Honda Civic is a stylish everyday commuter car with a sporty heart beating under its hood. It comes with two powertrain options, each of which delivers an impressive performance:
- 2.0L I-4: 158 horsepower, 138 lb-ft of torque
- 1.5L Turbo I-4: 174 horsepower, 167 lb-ft of torque
The 2.0L engine comes paired with a 6-speed manual transmission that gives you the ultimate control over your driving experience.
Alternatively, you can pair your 1.5L turbo engine with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), which allows you to maximize on power without compromising fuel efficiency. It works by doing away with the set gears of a traditional automatic transmission and instead of offering nearly unlimited shifts between the highest and lowest points.
However, you can still take control of your CVT by utilizing the available steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters to shift-on-demand when the mood strikes.
Power Moonroof and Other Civic Cabin Features
When you slide behind the wheel and feel the hum of the engine under the hood, you’ll also find yourself sitting in a comfortable and well-designed cabin. This cabin includes a single-touch power moonroof. It slides back with a simple touch of a button so that you can easily flood the cabin with natural light on sunny days.
The seating surfaces can be either standard cloth or available leather. The steering wheel and gear shifter can also be leather-wrapped to create a luxury-like feel. Take a seat and get comfortable with the available 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat that lets you find the perfect position.
One of our favorite features is the electric parking brake. This utilizes push-button capabilities to set the parking brake instead of pulling on a lever. Eliminating the lever cleans up the center console area, creating a much more refined and streamlined look.
Honda Civic Sedan and Hatchback Configurations
As we mentioned at the start, the Honda Civic comes in several body styles, including a sedan and hatchback, each of which have something different to offer.
We like the sedan for daily commuters who need more room for passengers than cargo. The hatchback, on the other hand, is ideal for weekend adventurers with plenty of luggage or for students who need some extra trunk space to move their stuff back into the dorm.
We see this distinction in their passenger and cargo area measurements:
Honda Civic Sedan | Honda Civic Hatchback | |
---|---|---|
Passenger Volume | 97.8 cubic feet | 97.2 cubic feet |
Trunk Volume | 15.1 cubic feet | 25.7 cubic feet |
The Civic hatchback can also increase its total cargo volume to 46.2 cubic feet when you fold the rear seat down flat.
Despite their differences, drivers should be equally comfortable in either configuration, with 39.3 inches of headroom and 42.3 inches of legroom.
